Getting Ripped Off

Since no one is gonna read this I guess I can say what ever I want but I'll try to be civil. The Cool Jerks (a band I play bass in) played a gig on June 16 and it was really great. We probably put over a hundred people in the club and the joint was rocking. We played two sets and the club was jammed for both of them. The guy who promoted it (Jim Spengler) was really happy with the turn out and was raving how he was gonna get us another gig there and all. When we asked him about getting paid he said he would have the money the following monday (June 20 ) and get it to us a day or so after that. Well you know how it goes, Monday comes and we get pushed back a day or so. He finally tells us that we earned $200. Well it's not a lot but hey it pays the expenses for hauling our equipment up there, paying to park the car and a little left over for beers. Jim tells us that he'll mail the money (oh my god it's "the check is in the mail" line and I didn't see it coming) after the weekend cause he's going away. Sure we say since he seems like a decent guy (seems is the operative word). Blah blah blah and on and on and questioning emails and then sarcastic emails. Well it all comes down to this it is now July 27, about six weeks after the gig and this guy not only hasn't paid us but now he won't answer our emails. I guess none of this in unusual in the world we live in but I just felt like venting. And to anyone who reads this and comes across this guy Jim Spengler, well just ask when he's gonna get around to paying the Cool Jerks their money.

mom's take a break the day after the biggest snow fall on record

ok so here's my chance to bitch about something that i know irritates a lot of people, parents and strollers. i know that someone with a kid is the most important person in the world, i have two so i have some say in the matter (not like you childless heathens). i know that whenever we see a couple of mom's pushing those industrial strength strollers down the sidewalk that we're supposed to jump into the middle of the street to avoid them. i realize that when two or three of these mom's and their strollers stop in the middle of the sidewalk to compare notes regarding the latest child rearing techniques we're supposed to squeeze aroung them, bumping into buildings and other people less fortunate then them. But do you think on the day after the biggest recorded snowfall in NYC history, when there is barely room to walk on the sidewalks let alone cross the street thru puddles as deep as loch lomond with corners that are cleared barely enough for one person to get through, that these mom's and their wideload strollers could stay the fuck inside and off the sidewalks so the rest of us could suffer through the general difficulty of day after the big snow streets in NYC with a little less grief. well do you think they could, that's what i think today if anybody is reading this.

sad news from the superbowl pre game show

joss stone once the hope of many old style soul fans after recording her first cd in the style of and with many stars of the miami soul sound of the early 70's has come down with a terrible affliction. after seeing her performance at the superbowl pre game show with Stevie Wonder it is sad to say that she has been struck with a severe case of mariahcareyitis. hopefully she will be able to have emergency surgery perfomed to have her twitching left hand removed from the side of her head were it has attached itself and flops aimlessly besides her ear. our prayers go out to her and her family and we all hope for a quick recovery.

My Dinner With Sal... and Melissa

First of all my day of line angst is over. there were no lines at trattoria l'incontro, almost the exact opposite. we were greeted at the door with open arms and smiles and things only improved from there. my friend sal nolastnameplease was welcomed like family and we were treated as 1st cousins. the meal was great, the wine was great and our waiter was greater. all in all a great way to get over my day of line angst and a tip of my hat to my friend sal and his lovely wife melissa nolastnameplease for taking jan and i there, we look forward to many more meals at trattoria l'incontro. hopefully my next blog entery will be less gushing and more obscure and wordy. see ya round the block kids

visiting NYCD and then some

today i stopped by NYCD to say hello to the boys, give them the dregs of my cd collection (which they grudingly took) and place my order for the new richard thompson box set (yes another box set, an addiction i actually inherited from my father (owner of many glenn miller, benny goodman and tommy dorsey boxed lp sets) ). they told me that i had to keep posting on my blog even though i only got it in the first place so i could comment on their's (are you following this).
so anyway that's the reason for the post but while i'm typing away, didja ever have one of those days when every line you get on is the wrong one. you know first your on the line that is taking forever, then your on the one where the person at the register gives you 90 cents in change (did you know that there is no cent key on a computer keyboard just $ keys, now what does that tell ya, back to my original thought) in nickels, then your on the one where the person rings it up wrong and they start screaming for a key or a mgr or something while you stand watching people at the other registers paying and walking out the door. well that was most of my afternoon.
the good new is i'm having dinner with my friends sal & melissa and my girlfriend jan at what i hear is a state of the art italian resturant that sal (last name nunziato, is that a reference for an italian resturant or what) picked out (and i'm sure it will be great sal, if your reading this). i'm looking forward to it but if there's a line i'm telling you now i'm going for a slice
